VS 2008: Crystal Report Runtime files

I was trying to implement a solution for a client which includes some reports done using Crystal. There was this error which explicitly means not able to find one of the crystal decisions file. I searched through the net and found out that the crystal report runtime files will be required to install before the solution is able to work. I proceeded to grad the runtime installation file from c:\program files\microsoft sdks\windows\v6.0a\bootstrapper\packages\crystalreports10_5\crredist2008_x64.msi (as my client’s server was on 64 bit win 2003).

After installation, i got stucked with another missing file which apparently are from the same family Crystaldecisions.vsdesigner. Again, Google was fired up and manage to get some hint which is to remove the reference line from web.config. This somehow resolved the issue and the web apps. got running.

Something to note and share if anyone happened to stumble the same error.

ASP.NET session not refreshed

Was doing some web application on ASP.NET which involves the web session. There was this particular machine which did not get its’ session refreshed and searching through the internet landed with alienated results.

Playing with the client PC IE configuration was somehow fruitful when changing the “Check for newer versions of stored pages” options to Automatically from Never, fixed the problem.

It was rather unexpected or ironically that this setting was changed. Luck must be with us that this problem could be rectified on the day before the presentation take place.

Samsung Omnia’s GPS with Mapking

I have installed the mapking on my handset. It wasn’t working quite well as expected (I guess my expectation is abit high). It’s currently coherently working with the port splitter. Before the GPS is able to work, the port splitter will need to be activated first with the right COM port entered (which is COM8 and COM6).

Before that, the software will need to be installed (and licensed) together with the map in place. Else, Mapking without map will lead you to no where (but you’ll have coordinates, nevertheless).

I have tried to use it by travelling down to Amcorp Mall and some other places (which I roughly knows the place), but with my level of trust toward the device, I got myself driving further than I should. At the end, I didn’t bother using it but my sense. I guess my sense sometimes worked.

There are some delays in the device/software and my estimation would be around 2 seconds. The speedometer shown in the software is also not as accurate as the one shown in my dashboard. So, do not try to follow what the device’s speed or else you will be driving at an inconsistent speed to catch up the constant speed.

Besides, it will always be wise to make a habit to switch it off once the navigation-assist is no longer required. I got myself having the device in my pocket heating and I thought it was going to explode, pun intended. But it will gets heated up.

Am trying to get Garmin installed on my omnia but have not got a chance in grabbing the software just yet. Besides, I have been busy with work. This post was planned to put up but have been delayed for a month since. Will try to post up more details and tips as well as photos when I got a chance soon.

Oh yeah, got myself certified as Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist in SQL Server 2005. It’s my first certification and aiming to get the developer cert. Hopefully will complete an exam in the next two to three months then.
