Dry Ice

Have you ever wonder what does dry ice made of? And did you know that dry ice will cause hazardous to health if it is not handle with extra precaution?

Dry ice is frozen carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is heavier than air, and it can concentrate in low areas or enclosed spaces (like a car or a room where dry ice is sublimating). Normal air is 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen and only 0.035% carbon dioxide. If the concentration of carbon dioxide in the air rises above 5%, carbon dioxide can become toxic.

There is an email circulating where by some ice-cream seller put dry ice into the box to maintain the temperature and avoid the aiscream from melt. If the amount of dry ice is less, you may probably be lucky but, if it is otherwise, you may ended up suffocated!
