Kiwi fruits

It was a impromptu decision to buy the kiwi fruits I saw in one of the malls. I was looking for oranges to replenish my fruits supplement but there was this kiwi fruits in a much obvious location and it caught my attention which reminded me of my colleague eating it. Immediately I grabbed one and went off to counter to pay.

It taste great, a little sour and sweet. I bought one gold kiwi fruit and it has lesser acidic flavour (which is more of a preferable choice for those who don’t like sour). After taking it, I made my priority to buy more kiwis instead of oranges. Besides it’s nutrient substances, there are also other health benefits which one can gain from consuming kiwis.

One article wrote, Kiwi have health benefits of:
1. Preventing Cardiovascular Disease
2. Reduce Respiratory Health issue in kids.
3. Lower Glycemic Index (GI)
4. Contains multiple nutrients source (antioxidants effect and excellent source of Vitamin C.

Google “kiwi fruit health benefits” and you’ll be florished with aplenty of resources. I even got to know that, the kiwifruits is the national fruit of China. It seems like the fruits, initially known as “yang tao”, was brought to NZ from China. I was thinking that the fruit was originated from NZ. Interesting facts!

Have you got your kiwifruits yet?

High Blood Pressure reading

Lately, the figure of my blood pressure result seems to be at the high side. It have even touched the crucial stage where medication should be resorted. But things doesn’t seem quite accurate when I re-tested it in the morning, just after waking up. The reading was at the normal rate which is opposite to the figure I got the previous day (tested in the late night).

I searched through the net, there were articles posted claiming that the reading is more accurate when:
1. immediately after awakening (before washing/dressing and taking breakfast/drink), while the body is still resting,
2. immediately after finishing work.
* referenced from wikipedia

I am keeping my finger crossed since the bp reading result which was taken immediately after awakening is below the border line figure. But I am curious what if my bp reading is above crucial figure during the working hours or normal period? Does it bring any harm to health?

Knowing the fact that my weight is increasing with the waist measurement inline, I am quite concern with the high bp reading. Below are some tips I gathered through the net in which potentially could lower the bp reading:

1. Exercise 30min a day
2. 5min breathe deeply morning n night
3. Pick potassium-rich food; sweet potatoes, tomatoes, orange juice, potatoes, bananas, kidney beans, peas, cantaloupe, honeydew melon, and dried fruits such as prunes and raisins.
4. Lower sodium(salt) intake
5. Take 1/2 ounce of dark chocolate (at least 70% cocoa)
6. Take supplement (coenzyme reduce blood pressure)
7. Drink moderately. (12 ounces of beer, 5 ounces of wine or 1.5 ounces of spirits.)
8. Go decaf. Caffeine raise blood pressure.
9. Go for hibiscus tea. (would lower sysbolic bp)
10. Work a little less. (try to lay back and reduce bring work to home)
11. Relax with music. (Or go for vacation and have some peace of mind).
12. Have a good sleep.

Guess my remaining half year resolution for 2010 should be working to lower bp figure!
